What is happening to the world?! It's FEBRUARY for heaven's sake! It's supposed to be one of the coldest, dreariest months of the year! But now, it's sunny and cloudless and feels like late spring. This is wrong...I mean, it's nice, but it's wrong...so wrong...

The Adventure of the Travelling Glove

My dad and I went for a walk, and when we came back, my sister came running to us. We thought she was excited that we were finally back! Boy, were we wrong...for some strange reason, she and my brother had been playing with Nate's glove, and somehow, it had gotten stuck in the the tree.
Daddy to the rescue!
And so the glove came down and we were all happy.
That is all.

Grading...

So I finally found out the grading system at this school:
A+ = 100%
A = 94-99%
B+ = 90-93%
B = 84-89%
C+ = 80-83%
C = 74-79%
D+ = 70-73%
D = 64-69%
F (for fail) = under 63%
Harder to get good grades? We shall see....

Ferrari in a Gas Station

When you go to America, a lot of people expect to see glamor and riches. Normally, you don't. But, on the rare occassion (as this one was; first time for me!) you might happen to see a fancy car in the gas station or something. Like this one time we saw a Ferrari in the gas station! The senior citizen driving it let me take a picture =D

Now, hopefully this will make your mouth water, but if you feel it mocks you, dial....um...our free hotline? =S)
How to Enjoy an Unexpected cake!

So, my parents have a party on Sunday, and somebody can't show up, so they send their driver to our house one evening and give us this cake in appology! Delighted, we open the box to find the above image; a perfect specimen of creamy Sheraton swill! Naturally, I see this as the perfect opportunity to payback-I mean TAKE PICTURES OF AND SHARE- with Badi in particular and everyone else! hehehe
So what if the slice topples over! it gives you a more accurate cross-section of the inside!

Enjoy that creamy, chocolatey, cherryey, delightful taste that fills your mouth and increases the desire to have a bite!

Right, Mom?

And of course please take more!

February 29th!!!!!

Do y'all know what day today is?

?

?

?

February 29th!!!

Only once every 4 years!

Celebrate! Woop woop!

(no I didn't have rootbeer floats again)

Anyways..........

The Earth actually takes about 365.25 days to orbit the sun! Not 365. So therefore, we add an extra day once every 4 years to make up for the quarter of a day. Otherwise, we would miss so many days! However, we probably already lost so much time in the past with inacurate calendars!

Haha you probably already knew that but oh well ;-P

Non Sequitur

Above is an example of the cartoon, "Non Sequitur"
What is a non sequitur?
non sequitur :
  • - a statement which does not have anything to do with what was being discussed
  • - does not follow on to anything
This post, for example, is a non sequitur.
I hope you learned something new.

Don't Be Blue If Your Heart Is Cruel

Are you still complaining?
Observe around you and be thankful for all that you have in this transitory lifetime...
We are fortunate, we have much more than we need to be content.
Let's try not to feed this endless cycle of consumerism and immortality in which this "modern and advanced" society forgets and ignores the other two thirds of our brothers and sisters.

Let us complain less and give more!

Blood Diamond - The Movie

Ok, this post IS a movie review.
Movie: Blood Diamond
Actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, Jennifer Connelly
Rated: R
Last night I watched the move "Blood Diamond" (playing on HBO this week for those who might be interested). Though it was pretty gory and bloody, it was a really good movie to see. I highly recommend it. It really gets behind the scenes and looks at the major conflict of blood diamonds occuring in Africa to this day! Informational, gory, tragic, loads of death; this movie really pacts a punch! And I mean it: it has a serious impact on the viewer.
The storyline: well, why would I tell you that? I might accidentally give something away, like the fact that the main character dies in the end, and it's all for the want of a diamond (woops). Or the fact that....well, I won't say anymore. :P Seriously though: a must watch!
Note: The post on blood diamonds has been updated for those interested.

Blood Diamond

No, this is not going to be a movie review. I haven't seen the movie (yet). This is a real life situation. Real people, real diamonds, real fear. No, the diamonds aren't red. They look normal. It's what's behind them that counts.

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend. Are these?

Blood diamonds are illegally mined diamonds. The money made from these diamonds goes towards paying for wars. Pays for weapons to invade villages, kill civilians, and train children to become child soldiers. The largest sources of blood diamonds are certain countries in Africa, such as Sierra Leone, Liberia, Angola, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of Congo.

Besides being used to pay for weapons, these diamond mines (and the diamonds smuggled out of them) are not legally registered. They opperate in "secret", and the mine owners use physical abuse against their employees. Probably also use child labor.

So, if you ever buy a diamond, watch where it comes from. Is it from a conflict source? Was it legally mined? Some people don't care about whether you get things legally or not. You should start caring.

Watch what you buy. Make a difference.
In 2003, several countries from across the globe gathered in Kimberly, South Africa to try to solve this problem of illegal diamonds. The created a document known as the Kimberly Process, which states that diamonds can only be bought and sold by and from countries that have signed this process. All diamonds mined must be regestered and given a serial number, which is put on an international register. This number is laser cut into the diamond, marking it as a "conflict-free" diamond. All diamonds on the market are chemically tested to ensure that they have not come from a conflict source.

You Load Sixteen Tons; What Do You Get?

Hehe this post is a very Nurul-like post :P Put the lyrics of a song...This one's a classic:
Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion
Cain't no-a high-toned woman make me walk the line
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you
Then the left one will
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
