After many a day of sitting around and staying indoors, it was decided we needed to get outside. There were plenty of opportunities for hikes near the valley-located house, so we randomly selected a path on which to march forth.

The trail up ahead seemed long, and we could see the heat shimmer, yet we began our journey with great speed.

A chilling breeze swept over us, and gave us the strength to travel forward, with gallant Lily in the lead.

Becoming tired, we looked back and saw that we infact had not travelled very far.

Many plants along the way comforted our eyes sore of all the dry, yellow grass.

Alas, poor Lily would have none of it, and straggled far behind the group.

Thus, we had time for a break to take photos of the astonishing views around us.

A lone poppy we saw felt the same as we did: tired, hot, but still fighting to survive.

Encouraged by this vision, Nathaniel boldly went where no man had gone before, on a trail that didn't exist....

...whilst Lily still struggled behind us.

"Hey, what are you looking at!"

Seeing as we had not followed him, Nathaniel briskly returned to our level of exercise: on a marked trail.

As we trudged, we saw more grass.

Oh, the views we saw! Such glorious views from our trail!

Though the trail continued on, the old oak was a sign to us it was time to turn around. The little ones were getting tired (though Grandma and I were not), so we stopped for water and graham crackers, and then began our descent.

Some of us decended more swiftly than others, due to the slippery gravel that littered the way.

"Hey! Copycat!" :(

Typical of younger siblings, Lily and Nathaniel made it back down far quicker than they whined their way up the trail.

Though a sacrifice with being way ahead is that you have to wait so much longer for everyone else, as my siblings soon discovered.

The peak of the hills were distant, and would have to wait for us for another day.
